Digital Foundry Shares Thoughts on Nintendo Switch 2: Impressed Overall, But Concerns Over LCD Screen
The experts at Digital Foundry have shared their final verdict on the Nintendo Switch 2, and while their review is largely positive, there are a few concerns—most notably, the quality of the console's LCD screen.
In his detailed breakdown, Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter expresses general satisfaction with Nintendo’s latest hybrid console.
He praises the upgraded hardware, highlighting several improvements including the redesigned Joy-Con controllers. He even mentions small but thoughtful design choices—like the addition of little “feet” on the base of the device—as welcome refinements. Leadbetter also gives kudos to the updated GameChat feature, describing the Switch 2 as “a refined and enhanced version of the original Switch,” offering a significant generational leap in performance and efficiency.
However, despite the upgrades, the Switch 2’s LCD screen remains a sticking point. Leadbetter notes that the display is "problematic in a number of ways," echoing concerns that had surfaced even before the device officially launched. The decision to use an LCD panel over OLED has disappointed some fans and tech reviewers alike.
Another minor issue raised in the review is the length of the included USB-C cables. Leadbetter mentions that the cables feel too short for comfortable use in certain setups, which may be an inconvenience for some users.
Overall, while Digital Foundry is largely impressed with the Switch 2 and its improved hardware, the screen and accessory choices suggest there's still some room for refinement.
