Psilocybin provides benefits for people with cancer and major depression, diagnostic testing shows

New results of a clinical testing suggest that a single dose of psilocybin - naturally occurring psychidelic compound found in mushrooms - can provide continuous decrease in depression and anxiety in individuals suffering from major depressive disorders. Conclusions are published in cancer.

People suffering from cancer often struggle with depression. In this phase II test, 28 patients with cancer and major depressive disorders received psychological support from a physician before and then from a physician.

During the clinical interviews conducted two years later, 15 (53.6%) patients demonstrated significant decrease in depression, and 14 (50%) gave a shortage of depression as well as exemption. Similarly, Psilocybin reduced anxiety for 12 (42.9%) patients in two years.

An ongoing random, double-blind test is currently evaluating two doses of 25 mg of Placebo vs. Placebo as a treatment for cancer patients. This study is constructing a single-focus study in an attempt to bring a large majority of patients to remove
depression and anxiety.

"A dose of psilocybin with psychological support for the treatment of depression has a long -term positive effect on giving relief from depression for two years for adequate part of cancer patients, and we are searching for whether repeating the treatment is a solution to depression for more than half of the patients," said Manish Agrawal, the lead author of Sunstone Therapy. "If random testing shows the same results, it may lead to more use of psilocybin to treat depression in cancer patients."A a A qq0
